How to sharpen an axe

Having the right edge for the work you're doing is crucial. To sharpen an axe blade, secure the head in a vise and make long, smooth strokes using a flat mill file at a 17-20 degree angle. File both sides equally, then use a honing stone held at a 25-degree angle to make circular strokes until the blade is sharp. Take care to maintain the correct angle and work carefully. Check out this video for a demonstration of the process.
